GI-FI TECHNOLOGY IS BETTER THAN WI-FI

Today I read the article about a latest technology that could transfer data at the rate of 5gbps
The new chip can provide connectivity to numerous gadgets such as tv,phones, players.
Researchers from Australian have been working on it.Professor Stan Skafidis of Melbourne
university and his team of researchers has being working on short range wireless networks for
some time. Finally they came up with the GI-FI technology.

GI-FI

A chip five millimetres in size.and its cost only $10 to make use of this technology.A chip consumes
only two watt powers. It is cheaper and power consumption is less.It is based on CMOS technology.

It uses a 60 GHZ SPECTRUM "milli wave" spectrum to transmit data.wifi makes use of spectrum
that is very much crowded due to sharing with other devices.Milli wave pectrum is unoccupied so
it has resulted in faster transfer of data at a rate of 5GBPS.GI-FI operational distance is small.
WI-FI still benefits from wider distance coverage than GI-FI.

SOON WI-FI WOULD BE HISTORY THANKS TO GI-FI!

Where exactly does this unoccupied 60GHz spectrum lie? If it is unoccupied then that means operating frequencies above 100GHz, i.e. wavelengths of a few milimeters, rendering the technology useless for distances higher than a few meters. So don't compare this with WiFi but rather with Bluetooth
