The following list contains 10 people who left their mark on society in the 20th century, for infamous reasons. This is one list that you should definitely not try to top.
10. O.J. Simpson
Yes, we know, 'Not-guilty' in the Criminal Trial, 'Guilty' in the Civil, regardless, this one sure caught the attention of the World: O.J. "what you ain't dead yet?" Simpson was a standout running back, first at the University of Southern California, and then with the Buffalo Bills. But that was not enough. Today, O.J. is neither remembered for his work on the gridiron nor for his spokesperson turn with Hertz, but rather for his knife-wielding skills and his undying search for Nicole and Ron's killers on the golf course.
9. John Gotti
What do John Gotti and Bill Clinton have in common? Bill was a politician who was more of a celebrity; John Gotti was a mob boss who was more like a celebrity. John Gotti can blame his downfall on his flashy side. While past mob bosses got to the top by keeping their mouths shut and minding their own business, Gotti displayed a flash that was almost blasphemous within mob circles.
8. Indonesia's Suharto
When it comes to politicians, they could single-handedly lock up all the spots on this list, but very few guys have left such a criminal mark as Suharto. How many politicians do you know with a $15 billion fortune stashed away?
7. Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka
They say that Canadians are friendly folk. True, unless you are talking about Paul "rapist /murderer" Bernardo and wife Karla "he twisted my arm your Honor" Homolka. This couple enjoyed torturing, raping and murdering innocent young girls, including Karla's sister and several schoolgirls. Karla sold out, as the prosecution "needed" her testimony to nail Bernardo.
6. Timothy McVeigh
Meet the man who masterminded the 1995 bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City, which claimed the lives of over 160 innocent people. Some say that the madman pulled this crime on the Waco anniversary in order to object to the Government's anti-right wing movement; gee, I wonder why the government is trying to prevent these things?
5. Unabomber
Have you ever seen Will Ferrell's impression of this manifesto-writing, cabin-loving, razor blade-fearing crazed man, otherwise knows as Theodore Kaczynski? If not, then you should. For years, post office workers were messengers of death, as innocent recipients would receive packages of love from the man in orange (well, after his arrest anyway).
4. Bonnie & Clyde
Bonnie & Clyde
This duo -- sometimes referred to as the "Bloody Barrows" -- terrorized the country, especially the Southwest, for two years as they killed at least a dozen peace officers. Their reign of terror ranged from Texas to Iowa and back, with regular visits to Oklahoma.
3. Ted Bundy
Various faces of Ted Bundy
Thirty to one hundred women were savagely beaten, raped and murdered by this madman in the 1970s. In fact, the exact number of victims is locked within Bundy's sick mind. Executed in 1989, hundreds of people held a vigil outside the prison with "Burn Bundy Burn" signs.
2. Jeffrey Dahmer
Serial Killer Jeffrey Dahmer
It is one thing to be a serial killer, but it is another thing to be a killer that cuts up your victims and makes stew with their bodies. Mmm, mmm, nothing says home cooking like Dahmer's slaughtering. After his arrest in 1991, this sick murderer stayed locked up in jail until 1994, when he was was bludgeoned to death by another convict, who gained access to his work area through a door that was "mysteriously" left unlocked. The guy was so scary that even the hardcore cons did not want him around.
1. Al Capone
Al Capone
Al Capone took advantage of prohibition laws to build an empire and rule Chicago. While he has more than enough crimes to fill this list, his masterpiece was the infamous St-Valentine's Day Massacre, where he had seven men killed in a warehouse on February 14th, 1929.
