The 2008 Formula One season will be the 59th FIA Formula One World Championship season. It will begin on 16 March and end on 2 November after eighteen Grands Prix.
The season sees the banning of traction control after it was re-introduced in 2001. 2008 also introduces two new street circuits. The Valencia Street Circuit and Singapore Street Circuit will host the European GP and the new Singapore GP respectively. The Singapore GP will also be the first Formula One event held at night.
The Australian Grand Prix will kick off proceedings on March 16, followed by Malaysia and Bahrain, before the championship heads to Europe. Turkey has been brought forward to May, while the sole North American round in Canada provisionally retains its traditional June slot.
The Valencia race, to be known as the European Grand Prix, will take place in August, while the other new event, the first-ever Formula One night race, will be staged in Singapore in late September. The season will finish in Brazil at the start of November.
Preseason Testing
The first multi-team test session started in Jerez on January 14, 2008. Ferrari, McLaren and Toyota all tested their 2008 cars.Lewis Hamilton in his mclaren was the
fastest. Kimi Räikkönen and massa was second and third.
